Dr. Boguslaw Tomanek is a director of the Institute for Biodiagnostics (West), Calgary, National Research Council, Calgary. He has been involved in many areas of MR imaging and spectroscopy research for over 20 years. He is an author of over 60 publications and over 100 conference presentations related to MRI. His particular area of expertise is MRI hardware and software, including rf and gradient coils, permanent magnets design, innovative MR imaging techniques. His basic research includes application of MRI and MRS to cancer, stroke, brain disorders and injury as well as fMRI of the spinal cord and brain, advances in molecular imaging and intraoperative MRI. He has been a PI and co-PI on many multimillion dollar projects funded by NATO, CIHR, NRC, CFI and other Canadian and international funding agencies.
Dr. Tomanek was a recipient of several achievement awards, including Outstanding Team Achievement Award, and Outstanding Individual Achievement Award, Industrial Partnership Award: National Research Council of Canada, Ottawa, 2002 and Vancouver 2007.
Dr. Tomanek holds professor positions at the University of Calgary, University of Manitoba, University of Alberta and the Institute of Nuclear Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences, Poland.
Dr. Tomanek is a reviewer for several journals (eg MAGMA, NMR in Biomedicine, Experimental Neurology, Magnetic Resonance Imaging) and national and international granting agencies (Ontario Cancer Board, NSERC, Heart and Stroke Foundation, CIHR, The Netherlands Organization for Health Research and Development, Industrial Research Assistance Programme etc).
